Watching footage of prey falling into a pitcher plant results in both horror and wonder. Horror at the brutality of nature, and the necessity of that, and wonder at the evolution of such a plant in the first place. I made two versions of this piece, experimenting on the wood panel to see which painting method I would move forward with for Ingrained, scaling up to the clear coated panels from 12 x 12'' to 30 x 30''. The grisallle (black and white) underpainting method was the winner.
